To Kill A Mockingbird - Chapter 18
Atticus started asking her how her father treated her and if he was good to her or if he was not. He asked if she loved him and how much. Atticus asks if Bob has ever beaten Mayella and she doesn't give a straight answer, but looks around the room and then at her dad instead.
You can easily tell that Mayella is nervous and is lying about something because she keeps looking around nervously, at Bob, and not answering questions in complete sentences or right on que. She has to be asked two or three times before she can think of something to say for an answer. If I were in the jury I would have chosen Tom innocent just by the way Mayella kept changing her story and acting squeamish and nervous. I also would choose him innocent because of the statement Atticus makes about Mayella having to be beaten with her left hand and Tom having a crippled left hand.

Chapter 22 & 23 - to kill a mockingbird
Chapter 23
Tom loses his appeal and gets moved to a more serious prison. While Atticus reacts almost as if nothing happened with the threat and the spitting. all he said was he wished Mr. Ewell didnt chew tabacco. He is very good about this and says he feels bad and its fair because he destroyed all Bob's life in court. Jem again matures and says it isnt right again, as the children worry for their dad, but Atticus assures them it'll be fine. Jem still is angry, and Atticus gives a big speech on how nothing is fair in life, and thats just the way it is and a black mans word will never beat a white mans ever. They all say how they hope it changes. Scout doesnt really understand and Auntie gives her a hard time but Jem sticks up for Scout saying shes only nine, and this again shows his growing maturity. At the end of this chapter they say their reasons for Boo staying inside and still have a wanting to see him.

I thought that there was a very good lesson taught in this chapter. It was that even thou the outside cover of the book isn't ever good, there’s always is something more inside of it. It showed that for being children they were well behaved and understand more then what they should have at that age.

Chapter 16 TKM
My thoughts about the characters in this book are that I still don't like Aunty Alexandra because she just doesn't seem to get why the Finch's do the things that they do. She is also from a higher class so everything has to be her way or it is completely wrong. I think that Scout and Jem are starting to grow up more and are starting to realize that life isn't always how it seems. I also like that Atticus is starting to stand up to Aunty Alexandra because she can't rule over everyone, so I am glad that he is sticking up for the kids in this chapter. My thoughts on Mr. Dolphus Raymond are that he needs so straighten up his life for his children's sake. Going around drunk all the time isn't healthy for his family even if he is good to them. I thought that it was really cool that the kids didn't mind sitting up in the Negro balcony with Reverend Skyes. That shows that they don't care about what people think of them.
Scout crying at the beginning of the chapter means that she is realizing what the world is really like and this is sad for her to realize that it isn't that nice but it is also good that she is finding out now. I thought that it was interesting when we learned about Mr. Dolphus Raymond and how his family didn't really fit in anywhere. That made me sad because everyone knows what it's like to not be accepted and that just sucks to have your whole family not fit in. I think that the children are very brave to go watch this court case and I that it will do them some good to see how things go down in the real world. I feel that the judge is going to be very fair in this case and is not prejudice.
This chapter ends just right before the court case begins, which is the good part.

Chapter 10 Summary
Scout's doubt of her father came up in a conversation with their neighbour Miss Maudie. She talks to Miss Maudie about how she believes that her father can't do anything that everyone else's father can. Miss Maudie assures her that Atticuz is not that old and he can still do lots of things. He is a very good lawyer, the best checker-player in Maycomb county and he can also play the Jew's Harp which not everybody can do. With all Miss Maudie's efforts Scout still doesn't find a reason to be proud of her father. When Scout returns home she decides to take up the topic again with their cook, Calpurnia. Calpurnia said that Atticuz can still do lots of things but she just couldn't think of them at that point.
Later on that day Mr. Harry Johnson's dog Tim was wondering down the road towards the Finsh's neighbourhood. He was walking awekwardly and looked like he was being strangley compelled to walk that direction. As he came closer they realized the truth of it, that the poor dog had rabies. Calpurinia phones Atticus at work and tried to let everyone know to stay inside. The sheriff was called but was too unsure of his shooting aim and handed the gun to Atticus. this confused Jem and Scout completely as they ahd never seen their father with a gun in his hand. Atticuz tried to refuse but he couldn't in the end. He threw his glasses to the ground and took out the mad dog in a single shot just before he reached the row of houses.
With this Scout and Jem are bursting with questions and they soon learn that their father used to be called "Ol' One-Shot". Atticuz did not abuse his talent because he felt that it was not right, like he had an unfair advantage over other living things. Scout is still quite confused that her father has never told them this thinking he would be proud of his gift. Jem on the other hand understands how his father feels and knows not to pester him farther about the subject.
I think that Scout and Jem should have had more faith in their father's ability. I mean I would have been rpoud of my father if he was a good lawyer like Atticus. There is definately something to be proud of when your dad helps defend innocent people and keep them from beign charged wrongly or helping them through making a will or the like. I also understand why Atticus never told Scout or Jem about being "the deadest shot in Maycomb county." He did not want them to go around bragging about it and the fact that he was not proud of this gift. He felt like it was an unfair advantage against nature itself. Atticuz is a quiet, level-headed man and if he was more known for that it would change how people treated him entirely.

Chapter 12 Summary
Atticus is busy with work and is called to travel away from home for a full two weeks. During this time Calpurnia decides to take Scout and Jem to her 'colored' church with her that Sunday. Before even entering the church critisizes Calpurnia for brining the children to their church. After considering leaving Reverend Sykes welcomes them with gratefull manner. After being sat in the church the children finally realize how different their church to Calpurnia's is. They also soon realized that the church had poor funding and cannot afford hyme books for everyone.
To near the end of the service Reverend Sykes takes a collection for Tom Robinson's wife. When the children asked why, they soon found that Tom Robinson had be accused of raping Bob Ewell an unconvincing man's daughter at their home. And when they finally return home, they Find Aunt Alexandra waiting for them.
In this chapter, I felt as if i started to not like Aunt Alexandra. To me, it seems that she doesn't know how to deal with children. Aunt Alexandra wanted to give the children a "feminine influence" because of their mother dying.

Chapter Nine
On Christmas day, Atticu, Jack, and the children go to Finch's Landing and this is when we are introduced to Aunt Alexandra, Uncle Jimmy, and Francis their grandson. Aunt Alexandra is described as being a proper lady and she can't leave Scout alone about dressing like a boy. James on the other had says nothing at all. The only time he said something to Scout was to tell her to get off of a fence. Fancis is a spoiled little boy whose father is Aunt Alexandra's son. Francis begins a fight with Scout because he called Atticus a 'nigger lover'. This caused Scout to snap and begin fighting and swearing at Francis. He then told Jack and Alexandra that Scout had hit him and of course not the entire story. Jack then diciplined Scout by spanking her without a word of her side of the story. Once they got home however, Scout told him the entire story but made him promise not to tell Atticus what they were fighting about. Later on in the night Scout got out of bed for a glass of water but stopped to listen in on the conversation Jack and Atticus were having. Jack was telling Atticus that he must not be ready for kids because of how the night went. Scout was waiting for him to tell Atticus about the night but her didn't. Instead Atticus talked to him about the trial and how Tom doesn't have much of a chance but soon figures out that Scout is listening so he sends her off to bed.
I think that in this Chapter we are introduced to some important characters even though some of them are not in the book for very long. James and Alexandra have a terrible relationship because they don't speak to each other and that probably leave Alexandra bored and feeling an emptiness. That's my theory as to why she is constantly trying to make Scout something she isn't because she has always wanted a daughter, someone she could teach things about life to and help in their life. Francis is another character who refers to Atticus as a 'nigger lover' but what i think he's doing is just repeating what he hears around his home. Whatever the parents' beliefs are, they will be passed onto their child. Uncle Jack seems to be alot like Atticus but when he spanked Scout and didn't get her side of the story, it just shows that he isn't used to children because he doesn't have any or a wife.

Chapter 8
Miss Maudie's house catches on fire in this chapter. Atticus wakes up Scout and she is very nervous but Jem tells her it's not time to worry yet. They are outside for a long time and Scout is so cold she starts shivering, Boo Radley comes out and puts a blanket around her but she doesn't notice till later because she is so caught up in the fire that is happening. She is so confused later when she realizes there is a blanket around her and then they are told that it was Boo Radley, Scout is very angry about not getting to see him when she had the chance. Atticus tells them to return the blanket but Jem says no and tells Atticus all about the ripped pants and the hole in the tree trunk and the presents inside. Atticus decides they should keep this to themselves and tells Scout to one day thank Boo.
I think that this chapter shows Boo Radley's generosity and courage because even though he is scared, or hates going outside he still does just to give Scout a blanket. It also shows Miss Maudie's strength and courage her house burns down and she jokes around about it and says she can start new now. She doesn't act sad about it all.
That's how I feel about what happened in chapter 8.

Chapter 7
In chapter 7 Jem starts out as somewhat moody. Atticus tells Scout to leave him alone and she does. Also in the chapter Jem reveals that when he went back he found that his pants were folded, lying on the wire with the holes attempted to be sewn up.
I think that it was Boo that had taken them and sewed them up and laid them on the wire. I think this because it says that they were sewn up as if someone like Jem had tried to do it and I believe that Boo did not know how to sew.
After that as they were walking past the knot hole they saw a grey ball of twine, they waited three days and when they were sure that it wasn’t someone’s hiding spot they took it.
I think that it was considerate of them to wait three days to make sure that it wasn’t someone’s hiding spot.
They also found some dolls made out of soap that were figures of them. When I read this I found it somewhat creepy because this meant that Boo had been watching them and had a good enough view to make figures of them and yet they had never seen him.
Some other gifts that they found would be a full pack of gum, a spelling bee medal, and a watch and chain. This was all gifts from Boo and Jem was so grateful that he wrote a note to stick in the tree to thank the person that gave them the gifts. But when they went to put the note in the tree they found Nathan Radley filling in the hole with cement. He claimed that the tree was dying. I think that Nathan was looking out for Arthur because he say this communication as dangerous and encouraged the kids to venture closer to the house and he didn’t like that.
And that is my summary and opinion of chapter seven. The next person to blog is Beth.
Chapter 6
If I was in Jems situation I would have done the same thing and gone back to get my pants. I would have made sure that the Radleys had gone to bed so I would know they weren’t going to come out while I was getting my pants.
The next person to blog is Daniel.
Chapter 5
Chapter 5 was short but there were some good things like how they decided to give up the Boo Radley game, and scout began to go to Miss Maudie’s at night. Miss Maudie told scout that boo was still alive because he never left the house, and any stories that Jem and Scout heard were made up. She also told them that when boo a child he was a polite boy.
Also in this chapter they also decided to make a note to put in Boo’s window, but Atticus caught them and told them how Boo wanted to be alone. Atticus also caught them before they quit playing their game. Also Dill starts to get really close to Jem and Scout, he even asked scout to marry him.
I think that at the end of the chapter Jem, Scout, and Dill all start to agree that they have to give Boo some privacy. Also i think that dill wants to be friends with Jem forever, that is why he asked Scout to marry him.
Albert is next.

Chapter 4
I think Scout was right about her not learning anything at school. She already knew how to read and write and there isn't much more to learn in the younger grades besides math. I think she also may have found it hard to sit still all day because she is so used to running around with Jem, that could have added to her boredom. The treasures in the knot hole seem so secretive, but I think that Boo Radley is leaving them for the children as a way to connect with them. The children are so thrilled about finding the gum and pennies that they haven't given it much thought as to who left them there. I think that Jem was trying to scare Dill and Scout with his Hot Steams story. Maybe to prove that he is brave. And then when he shoves Scout in the tire, I think he was a little frustrated with her because she was ruining his tale, so he shoves her extra hard. But then is scared for her when she is stopped at the Radleys. When the children make up the play about the Radleys, I think it is their way of satisfying themselves with not having the answers about them. They just make up their own and take them as fact. They are so intrigued by Boo Radley that they can't help feeling curious about him.
I think later in the book they will find out that it was Boo that left the treasures for them.

Chapter 3
Chapter three was about when Scout invited Walter to the house to have supper with then. Either know it may seem like a good idea, i think it was a bad decision because Walter and Scout had a fight at school because Walter got her in trouble. When Scout got disgusted at Walter for what he was doing Calpurnia took her to the kitchen to tell her to be more of a guest. As well back at the school the next day Miss Caroline was scared when see saw a tiny bug in Burris's hair

Chapter 2- TKM
I felt that this chapter Scout was probably the main character along with a new character we were introduced to , Miss. Caroline. If i was Scout i would also be somewhat confused and mad at how Miss Caroline got mad, because all Scout was trying to do was help both Walter and Miss Caroline out. From Scouts point of view, she didn't want Walter to get in trouble because she is the type of kid who is trying to help others.
My expectations of where the story is going, i think that Scout and Miss Caroline will either become better friends or become more of enemies and i think that Scout is going to talk to Walter about everything and apologize for the misunderstanding in some way.
Overall this was a good chapter and i think it's leading up to a good book.

Chapter one blog
Im going to tell you a little bit about the first chapter. This first chapter is all about Scout and Jem and Their famiy history. It also introduces their best friend Dill that only gets to hang out with them in the summer. I felt that the kids were instrusive and too curious. Boo Radley deserved to be left alone! Clearly he was a physco though, but that doesnt give the right to these kids to be nosey. Overall this chaoter was a good introduction to a great and fascinating story!
Red Dragon-Over and out!

Digital Ethics
Here are a few videos that illustrate some of what I want you to think about:
Two teachers in the U.S.A. worked with their classes to come up with a list of guidelines for student bloggers.
One of them, Bud Hunt, has these suggestions, among others:
- Students using blogs are expected to treat blogspaces as classroom spaces. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for our blog. While we encourage you to engage in debate and conversation with other bloggers, we also expect that you will conduct yourself in a manner reflective of a representative of this school.
- Never EVER EVER give out or record personal information on our blog. Our blog exists as a public space on the Internet. Don’t share anything that you don’t want the world to know. For your safety, be careful what you say, too. Don’t give out your phone number or home address. This is particularly important to remember if you have a personal online journal or blog elsewhere.
- Again, your blog is a public space. And if you put it on the Internet, odds are really good that it will stay on the Internet. Always. That means ten years from now when you are looking for a job, it might be possible for an employer to discover some really hateful and immature things you said when you were younger and more prone to foolish things. Be sure that anything you write you are proud of. It can come back to haunt you if you don’t.
- Never link to something you haven’t read. While it isn’t your job to police the Internet, when you link to something, you should make sure it is something that you really want to be associated with. If a link contains material that might be creepy or make some people uncomfortable, you should probably try a different source.
Look over the guidelines and add your own, if you like, in the comments section below this post. I think Bud's suggestions are excellent. We'll be using the one's I highlighted above as a basis for how we will use our blog.
Please download and print out the doc I have created as an agreement of your contribution to this blog. Hand in the sheet after you have signed it.
