Chapter 7

In chapter 7 Jem starts out as somewhat moody. Atticus tells Scout to leave him alone and she does. Also in the chapter Jem reveals that when he went back he found that his pants were folded, lying on the wire with the holes attempted to be sewn up.

I think that it was Boo that had taken them and sewed them up and laid them on the wire. I think this because it says that they were sewn up as if someone like Jem had tried to do it and I believe that Boo did not know how to sew.

After that as they were walking past the knot hole they saw a grey ball of twine, they waited three days and when they were sure that it wasn’t someone’s hiding spot they took it.

I think that it was considerate of them to wait three days to make sure that it wasn’t someone’s hiding spot.

They also found some dolls made out of soap that were figures of them. When I read this I found it somewhat creepy because this meant that Boo had been watching them and had a good enough view to make figures of them and yet they had never seen him.

Some other gifts that they found would be a full pack of gum, a spelling bee medal, and a watch and chain. This was all gifts from Boo and Jem was so grateful that he wrote a note to stick in the tree to thank the person that gave them the gifts. But when they went to put the note in the tree they found Nathan Radley filling in the hole with cement. He claimed that the tree was dying. I think that Nathan was looking out for Arthur because he say this communication as dangerous and encouraged the kids to venture closer to the house and he didn’t like that.

And that is my summary and opinion of chapter seven. The next person to blog is Beth.

  2. I think that you had a valid point about how Nathan was just trying to protect his brother from the children. I never thought about the dolls but when you brought up that they were so detailed that he must have been close enough to see it, it kind of made me think about how he must see everything else that goes on outside of his house so in a way he is still connected to the community in some sort of way. Your blog was well put but I think there could have been more detail in your summary. I think your thoughts on it were well put also.
