Chapter 8

In this chapter it snowed which is very odd in Maycomb and it was colder than any of them remembered. Jem and Scout made a snowman that looked just like Mr. Avery, which they found quite amusing but they didn't want to insult him so they disguised it with Miss Maudie's hat and shears. Atticus found this quite amusing.
Miss Maudie's house catches on fire in this chapter. Atticus wakes up Scout and she is very nervous but Jem tells her it's not time to worry yet. They are outside for a long time and Scout is so cold she starts shivering, Boo Radley comes out and puts a blanket around her but she doesn't notice till later because she is so caught up in the fire that is happening. She is so confused later when she realizes there is a blanket around her and then they are told that it was Boo Radley, Scout is very angry about not getting to see him when she had the chance. Atticus tells them to return the blanket but Jem says no and tells Atticus all about the ripped pants and the hole in the tree trunk and the presents inside. Atticus decides they should keep this to themselves and tells Scout to one day thank Boo.
I think that this chapter shows Boo Radley's generosity and courage because even though he is scared, or hates going outside he still does just to give Scout a blanket. It also shows Miss Maudie's strength and courage her house burns down and she jokes around about it and says she can start new now. She doesn't act sad about it all.
That's how I feel about what happened in chapter 8.
